Shop Operations Technician

About the Role

We’re hiring a proactive and detail-oriented Shop Operations Technician to support the daily operations of our fabrication shop and warehouse.

This is a hands-on role with growing responsibility — ideal for someone who is driven to create and maintain a well-organized environment, takes initiative, and enjoys being at the center of a busy and dynamic workspace.

The focus of this role is on MRO (Maintenance, Repair, Operations) support, including overseeing shop upkeep, assisting with consumables and supply ordering, coordinating logistics, and identifying opportunities to improve operational systems.

We’re looking for someone with hands-on experience and a strong sense of initiative who’s ready to grow with the role over time.

What You’ll Be Doing

Maintenance, Repair & Operational Upkeep

  • Oversee shop cleanliness, safety, and day-to-day functionality

  • Perform daily cleaning and shop upkeep

  • Maintain warehouse and inventory organization for accessibility and efficiency

  • Monitor inventory of MRO supplies such as PPE, grinding discs, fasteners, welding consumables, and cleaning products

  • Assist with placing orders for operational supplies and consumables

  • Restock and rotate materials and consumables at designated workstations

  • Identify and report maintenance issues and perform light maintenance tasks (e.g. tool checks, minor repairs, organizing cables, replacing filters, etc.)

  • Coordinate with management, the production team, suppliers, and external machine repair technicians for scheduling larger shop floor repair and maintenance tasks.

Shipping, Crating & Logistics

  • Collaborate with production and office teams to ensure timely delivery coordination

  • Prepare outgoing shipments, including custom crate building and secure packaging

  • Receive, label, and organize incoming shipments and materials

  • Coordinate and complete local pickups and drop-offs using the company vehicle

Systems & Communication

  • Collaborate with operations and production teams to identify and implement improvements to shop workflows, organization, signage, layout, and material handling systems.

  • Use our work management platform (Monday.com) to track, prioritize, and document tasks (training provided)

  • Support digitization and organization of operational records (e.g., equipment checklists, tool inventories, maintenance logs)

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in a fabrication shop, warehouse, or operational support role

  • Strong understanding of shop operations and the importance of MRO systems

  • Metalworking experience is an asset.

  • Excellent organizational skills with a structured and detail-oriented mindset

  • Self-motivated and proactive — sees problems and works to solve them

  • Able to manage responsibilities independently

  • Experience with woodworking tools and building crates or packaging for shipping

  • Comfortable using digital tools; Monday.com experience is a plus

  • Strong communicator and supportive team player

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Forklift and/or scissor lift certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain)

  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labour throughout the day

Compensation

  • $25–$32/hour, based on experience and skill level.

  • After a 3-month probation period this role includes access to health benefits, a group payroll contributions program, and 2 paid sick days annually.
