Machine Operator
About the Role
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Machine Operator to support the production of high-quality precision parts using manual and CNC equipment.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for reading technical drawings, setting up and operating machine tools, performing inspections, and maintaining equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
This role is ideal for someone with strong machining skills and a passion for craftsmanship and quality.
What You’ll Be Doing
Machine Operation & Maintenance
Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools including lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
Perform preventative maintenance on machines and report any issues or malfunctions.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary tools and materials.
Blueprint Interpretation & Technical Execution
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications with minimal supervision.
Ensure accurate part production according to dimensional and material specifications.
Adjust machine settings as needed to achieve required tolerances and finishes.
Material Handling & Logistics
Move raw materials, components, and finished products throughout the shop using forklifts, pallet jacks, or by hand (up to 50 lbs).
Support the flow of materials through production stages and assist with incoming and outgoing parts handling.
Quality Control & Metrology
Inspect and verify dimensions of machined parts using measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
Ensure all products meet specifications and quality standards before delivery.
Support corrective actions to resolve quality issues and participate in process improvements.
Communication & Team Collaboration
Report production status, issues, and updates to supervisors and relevant departments.
Work effectively with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
Participate in team meetings and ongoing training sessions.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all occupational health and safety regulations and company safety protocols.
Wear appropriate PPE and maintain a safe working environment.
Promptly notify supervisors of safety concerns or equipment malfunctions.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred (not always required depending on experience and skills)
Technical training or certification in machining or CNC operation preferred.
Experience & Technical Knowledge
Proficient in operating manual machine tools such as lathes, mills, and drill presses.
Experience with CNC machinery and laser cutting technology.
Experience in CNC operation required
Familiarity with CAM programming and G-code interpretation is an asset.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of various CNC control systems.
Technical & Software Skills
Experience with shop equipment including press brakes, shears, and saws.
Experience with forklift operation in a shop environment an asset
Ability to use metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
Soft Skills & Attributes
Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Effective time management and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation
$24–$30/hour, based on experience and skill level.
After a 3-month probation period this role includes access to health benefits, a group payroll contributions program, and 2 paid sick days annually.
