Junior Fabricator
About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Fabricator to join our team.
In this entry-level role, you’ll support the fabrication of architectural features, public artwork, and structural components.
You’ll work under the supervision of experienced fabricators to develop hands-on skills in welding, fitting, and finishing metalwork, while learning to interpret drawings and safely operate shop tools.
What You’ll Be Doing
Fabrication & Welding Support
Assist with MIG, TIG, Stick, and Arc welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel under supervision.
Support senior fabricators with grinding, sanding, and polishing to achieve clean finishes.
Learn to cut, bend, and shape metal components using shears, press brakes, and saws.
Help assemble fabricated components according to drawings and instructions.
Machine Operation & Shop Support
Assist in setting up and operating fabrication equipment including lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.
Support material handling using forklifts, pallet jacks, or by hand.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.
Logistics & Inventory
Assist with preparing outgoing shipments, including packing, labeling, and loading.
Receive and inspect incoming materials and help with deliveries and pickups as needed.
Support restocking and general inventory organization.
Learning & Development
Work alongside experienced team members to learn fabrication techniques and blueprint reading.
Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Take direction, ask questions, and actively build your technical skillset.
Safety & Quality
Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Help implement quality control procedures to ensure high standards in all fabricated products.
Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Completion of or enrollment in a welding/fabrication training program is an asset.
Forklift and scissor lift certifications (or willingness to obtain).
Experience & Knowledge
Some experience in a manufacturing, construction, or metal fabrication environment is preferred.
Basic knowledge of welding, brake forming, machining, and shop tools.
General understanding of construction or technical drawings.
Skills & Attributes
Eagerness to learn and take direction from experienced tradespeople.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to perform simple math and measurements accurately.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Punctual, dependable, and able to work both independently and in a team.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labour throughout the day.
Comfortable working in a variety of environmental conditions (noise, heat, dust, fumes).
Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Able to stand, bend, and work in tight spaces for extended periods.
Compensation
$22–$28/hour, based on experience and skill level.
After a 3-month probation period this role includes access to health benefits, a group payroll contributions program, and 2 paid sick days annually.
