Junior Fabricator

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Fabricator to join our team. This is an entry-level, hands-on role working in steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. You will build your fabrication skills alongside experienced fabricators, learning to interpret technical drawings and to fit, weld, and assemble architectural and artistic metalwork to a high standard, with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.

The fabricators who do well here pay close attention to detail, ask good questions, and think about the best way to tackle a task. More than years of experience, we are looking for an interest in the trade and the drive to keep growing their skills.

We work across a wide range of finishes, from raw structural steel to refined architectural surfaces, and every piece is made to a defined quality standard. A big part of the job is learning to match your effort to what each piece calls for, giving showpiece surfaces careful attention while working efficiently where that level of finish is not needed.

Exposure to CNC equipment, on-site installation, or welding certifications is a bonus, and worth highlighting on your resume, though none are required.

What You’ll Be Doing

Welding & Fabrication

  • Learn to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to fabricate metal components.

  • Assist with laying out, fitting, and tacking up components ahead of final welding.

  • Develop your MIG, TIG, Stick, and Arc welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel under guidance.

  • Learn to operate metalworking equipment such as shears, saws, and grinders.

  • Support fine finishing through grinding, sanding, and polishing, to the standard each piece requires.

Assembly & Machine Operation

  • Help assemble fabricated components into finished products.

  • Work alongside experienced fabricators and machinists, learning machine setup and operation.

  • Learn to operate and maintain shop machinery such as drill presses, lathes, press brakes, and milling machines.

Quality Control & Communication

  • Take part in inspections and quality checks on fabricated goods.

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and teammates about job status and any issues that arise.

  • Help carry out corrective actions to resolve quality issues.

Material Handling & Logistics

  • Safely move raw materials and finished products using forklifts, pallet jacks, or by hand.

  • Perform local deliveries and pickups as needed using a company vehicle.

  • Build shipping crates for finished work and prepare outgoing shipments, including packing and labeling, using general woodworking tools.

  • Receive and inspect incoming materials and report discrepancies.

Shop Organization & Safety

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area with tools in proper condition.

  • Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.

  • Report equipment issues and help with basic maintenance where appropriate.

  • Take part in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement efforts.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Coursework or training in metal fabrication, welding, or a related trade is an asset.

  • A valid Full G driver's license is an asset.

  • Welding certifications (such as CWB) are a bonus, not required.

  • Willingness to obtain scissor lift and forklift certifications.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Some experience in a manufacturing, construction, or metal fabrication environment is preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of welding, brake forming, machining, and shop tools.

  • General understanding of construction or technical drawings.

Skills & Attributes

  • Eagerness to learn and take direction from experienced tradespeople.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • Ability to perform simple math and measurements accurately.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Punctual, dependable, and able to work both independently and in a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs, with mechanical aids and team lifts used for heavier work.

  • Comfortable working in a variety of environmental conditions (noise, heat, dust, fumes).

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Compensation

  • $22–$28/hour, based on experience and skill level.

  • After a 3-month probation period, this role includes access to health benefits, a group payroll contributions program, and 2 paid sick days annually.
